Chicago Public Library: Adult Programming
As a part of an SAIC* design and research team, we partnered with the Chicago Public Library (CPL) to reimagine adult programming communication. (*SAIC = School of the Art Institute of Chicago)
First, we visited multiple CPL branches and conducted observational ethnography, attended CPL adult programs, and interviewed patrons and librarians about adult programs. Then, we synthesized the research and found common themes. Finally, we drew insights from these themes to create “how might we” questions to be used for ideation. Resulting with concept ideas for reimagining adult programing communication.
With each CPL branch having differing priorities, all concepts were given to CPL librarians as recommendations to be implemented based on their own library's priorities.
Below are the 2 concepts I contributed to this project:

Insights & How might we?
Ideas
Insight: An overwhelming amount of information may lead patrons to not make decisions about their participation.
Communicating but causing confusion.
Proposed Concepts
Concept 1
How might we visually organize patron-facing information?
Color code events by age range, organize by time of day/average height of age group and update weekly.
Heading 1
Concept 2
How might we say a little, but convey a lot?
Add a quiet reminder to inform patrons that a program is about to begin.
