• Work From Home •

From the perspective of a Experience Designer, Researcher, and Production Assistant

Innovation Bootcamp is a week long event hosted by CableLabs. During the event employees (called "Bootcampers") learn the steps of innovation and in small teams pitch their concepts to a pitch panel. Innovation Bootcamp is usually an in-person event but was moved online due to Pandemic Covid-19 and needed to be redesigned to fit the new online format. Below are a few examples of the redesign process I was responsible for.

The event was a huge success with and NPS of 10, a first in Bootcamp history!

• Run of Show

A daily schedule with start/end times, consistent font/ formatting/ color, corresponding speaker/ producer backgrounds to create a cohesive experience.

The Run of Show was designed with "Flex Time" allowing Bootcampers to internally schedule team work time, lunch and attend to at home life

• Team Zoom Backgrounds

Personalized team backgrounds to create a sense of comradery. Based off color theory, I selected colors that encourage focus, creativity and innovation.

Some of the teams added presentation components to their backgrounds to enhance their final pitches.

• Speaker Backgrounds

Corresponding speaker Backgrounds designed to match and enhance their presentation topic.

In some cases, I used past Bootcamp photos as an example of what the process might have looked like in an in person setting. (additional examples in "Redesigning Online Customer Research Event" Section)

• How to Instructions

Examples of instructions designed for Bootcampers to become familiar with new online collaboration platforms/tools before the event began.

• Conducting Customer Research

Used Survey Monkey to collect quantitative data from general public about their work from home experience, as well as select 12 participants form an online customer research event.

I created briefing packets for the Bootcampers to review before their team interviews with the 12 participants. The briefing packets had the information gathered from the Survey Monkey questionnaire, as well as profiles of each of the 12 participants.

• Redesigning Online Customer Research Event

Redesigned online customer research event with a rotating schedule, debriefing time slots, and observing time slots.

The event goal is for the Bootcampers to become familiar with real customers stories/pain points/etc. to better inform their final project.

• Graduation

At the end of the event the coaches hold a graduation ceremony where Bootcampers receive personalized "Call Signs" (nicknames reflecting their personality/ interests/ strengths/etc. chosen by the team's coach). I designed the graduation ceremony as well as created corresponding Zoom backgrounds for each of the Bootcampers new "Call Sign". Each background appeared after the coach told a story about why the Bootcamper was receiving that particular name.
